Grudge Match

Stallone and De Niro are a couple 60-something retired boxers who split two fights back in the 70s and never had a third. They have a personal feud and it gets reignited when they show up to do motion capture for a boxing video game. That leads to a third fight. There are some decent laughs in the movie but ultimately the movie just never really delivers. They do some CGI and other wizardry to try and make the two guys look younger or whatever and sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. There's a funny bit that refers back to Rocky. I'm sure there's a similar moment for Raging Bull but, since I haven't seen that movie, I can't confirm it. Anyway, this ends up mildly amusing, occasionally funny and ultimately not great but not terrible either. 6/10.

The Score

Saw this back on release in the theater and loved it. Still do. Remember when Edward Norton and Robert De Niro actually tried in their movies? Yeah, this was like the last time they did. De Niro is a high-end safecracking thief, Norton is a young up & comer who's got a line on a major score in the Montreal customs house. They partner up to steal a sceptre. Fun movie and one I like a lot. It's not deep, there's no underlying message, it's just entertaining with a super high-end cast (Marlon Brandon and Angela Bassett also appear). 8/10.

Killing Season

Robert De Niro is an army colonel who has retired to a cabin in the woods. John Travolta is a Serbian army veteran who apparently was shot by De Niro during the Serbian wars of the 90s. Travolta seeks him out, they go hunting together and then De Niro becomes the target. This movie is all kinds of ridiculous with stupid movie stuff all over the place. Both guys turn down multiple chances to kill the other instead insisting on talking to them. Travolta's accent and dialogue have to be heard to be believed. Ditto for his hair and beard. And the ending is just ridiculous. I honestly can't fathom how they got two stars this big to be in this crap. The only saving grace is the smoking hot bartender and her cleavage for 10 seconds at the end. 2/10.
