About Me (and this page)

I'm Tabe. I love movies. I always have, for as long as I can remember. But I am *NOT* a "film buff". I'm not a guy into the pretentious nonsense you so often see associated with movies, critics and reviews. I don't get into long dissertations on "theme" and "mood lighting" and all that stuff. See, I like MOVIES. I like ALL kinds of movies. All I really care about is whether a movie executed its goal well. If it's trying to entertain me, like the latest big, dumb summer blockbuster, then well, did it entertain me? If it's trying to be thoughtful, was it? And so on.

What you will see on this blog is a big mish-mash of different movies (and the occasional TV show - I watch those, too!) There's documentaries, there's action movies, there's deep movies, horror movies, Christian movies, everything. A lot of times what I review is based on how long I have to watch a movie and what in my Netflix queue that fits that criteria. Or maybe I don't want something deep, but something that will just keep me interested for 100 minutes. Whatever the reason, you'll see a wide spectrum of movies here, wildly varying in quality.

And that brings us to the name of this blog. Why "The Tabedoza Line"? It all started on a message board where I first began posting my movie reviews. Mario Mendoza was a 1970s baseball player known for being a poor hitter, usually coming in right around a .200 batting average. Mendoza's teammates began teasing each other about falling below "The Mendoza Line" if their averaged dropped under .200. It got mentioned to Chris Berman of ESPN and soon became well-known nationally. On the message board forum, I eventually got the reputation of being very easy to please movie-wise (not true - look at my reviews!) and that I would give pretty much anything and everything a rating of "7". Thus, if a movie below that line, it must be REALLY awful, a la Mario Mendoza and his batting average. And, thus, the phrase "The Tabedoza Line" became coined, representing a movie with a rating of 7.

In the words of Paul Harvey: and now you know...the rest of the story.

Enjoy the blog and please feel free to comment on any and all reviews!
